How transfer rooms work

A transfer room is a live session where one sender shares files and text with multiple receivers at the same time. Create a session, get a unique code, and share it — anyone with the code can join your room from any device. All data travels through direct peer-to-peer connections, not a cloud upload everyone downloads from.

You can also join a transfer session from any tool on FileTransferX. If someone shares a session code with you, enter it on the file transfer or text transfer page and you'll be connected to their room automatically. Every participant needs a free FileTransferX account to create or join a session.

Direct peer-to-peer connections are free with no usage limits. If a receiver's network blocks direct connections and the transfer falls back to a secure relay, that relay usage counts against the sender's monthly quota — the same fair-usage model as regular transfers, just applied once per relayed receiver.

Transfer rooms work for team handoffs, classroom file distribution, meeting materials — any time one person needs to get the same set of files to several others without emailing attachments or uploading to a shared drive. Send files, text, or both in one session. Each receiver gets their own independent connection, so a slow receiver doesn't hold up anyone else.
